The cover of this book holds a piece of my soul. It features a photograph of a cross-stitch painting I handcrafted four decades ago — a faithful rendering of SummerEvening at Skagen. The Artist’s Wife and the Dog by the Shore (1892) is a painting made by the renowned Danish master Peder Severin Krøyer. The painting shows Marie Krøyer, the artist’s wife, standing beside their dog Rap at the water’s edge, bathed in the quiet glow of moonlight. I stitched it thread by thread, withpatience and love, never knowing that one day it would grace the cover of my first bookof poetry — finding new meaning as the visual expression of my literary voice.
