Oasis of Dreams by Sofia Skleida

"Oasis of Dreams", Sofia Skleida's first poetry collection in Greek - Italian version is a complete discovery, just like "an oasis" that refreshes, gives peace and serenity after traveling within the soul. The reference to dreams, then, is very specific, as the poet, in her lyrics, describes them often and not only as something to yearn for in order to reach the beauty and scents of memories. She gives us a perfect inner balance through the reading of her poems as well as a concrete vision of the reality in which she often lives her ethical, religious and philosophical intentions. This seems to be in antithesis with the dream: pragmatism versus the irrationality of dreams, of fantasy and desires. Her poetic inspiration is romantic and passionate; Sofia Skleida conceives of poetry as an instrument of life, as an unfolding of words that dominate a single certainty: the hope in the future. In her lyrics, Sofia Skleida, speaks of philosophy, of that love of wisdom that is also inherent in the poet's name and this is due also to her classical studies.

SOFIA SKLEIDA was born in Athens. She studied Philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens where she obtained her BA, MA in Pedagogy, Ph.D. in Comparative Pedagogy and a postdoctoral research certificate. She obtained a certification in the Braille language. Today she works as a teacher in the secondary education. She has taken part in various conferences and has published a lot of articles in the Greek and international scientific journals, in conference papers and chapters books. She was awarded for her participation in poetry and literary contests in Greece and abroad. Her poems have been translated into Italian, English, Spanish, Albanian, Romanian and Bangla. Her first poetic collection entitled Dream of Oasis (Thessaloniki, 2014), was translated and published in Italy in 2017. It also won the second prize in an international competition in Milan. Her first Fairy tale entitled Geometrini waspublished in 2016, her second with the title The Kingdom of Joy in 2018. She is Vice President of the Zakynthian Cultural Institute, Member of the judging committee for new members of the Association of Greek Writers, a regular member at the Panhellenic Union of Writers and at the Association of Greek Writers.
